After recognition in Germany of the qualification earned in your homeland (referred to as validation of degrees)

The recognition process is often complicated and in many instances even impossible.

Recognition of university degrees is a responsibility of the relevant university schools, and in the case of state governed diplomas, the competence for recognition lies within specific services. The first point of contact is often the Central Office for Foreign Education (https://www.kmk.org/zab/zentralstelle-fuer-auslaendisches-bildungswesen.html ). A certificate from this body is often sufficient to get a job in the private sector or in the civil society sector.

In the case of many vocational qualifications (high-school qualifications), the difficulty lies in the fact that the German dual system of education is relatively unique due to a high level of practice in education. On the other hand, there is no comparative German vocational qualification for each foreign qualification. The competence for the recognition of qualifications lies within

  • the state administration in the case of state governed education profiles
  • the Chamber of Crafts as well as the Chamber of Industry and Trade in the case of education profiles which fall within the responsibility of the economy
